The Pininfarina Small-Scale Acoustic Wind Tunnel

It was built in 1996 with the aim of carrying out tests on materials and components in a condition of low background noise.

It is a small-scale wind tunnel (jet section = 0,5 x 0,5 m2), with a top speed of about 150 Km/h.
The ambient noise, measured in the plenum outside the jet, has a level of   63 dB(A) at 100 Km/h and 71 dB(A) at 140 Km/h.
It is equipped with its own aeroacoustic instrumentation, which makes it completely independent from the full-scale Wind Tunnel.
It is used for:
  • testing sound-proofing materials in the presence of flow;
  • testing various types of components;
  • probe calibration.
